the Baths of Agrippa.

Thermae of Agrippa, Rome. Restored Plan (Yegul,1992). This plan shows the plan of Agrippa's baths. Though the positioning of the rooms is not known, the central circular room that dominated the buildings could have been a collecting space or perhaps a frigidarium. It is not certain that the baths of Agrippa actually had a frigidarium for the pools located in the Gardens may have served this purpose. The room indicated A on the plan is believed to be that of the Caldarium, with rooms B and C also being heated. This is known as the remains of a hypocaust (the major heating system of Roman Baths) along with elements of wall heating have been found in this area. The plan of the baths is known from a fragment of marble plan found in 1900 and from drawings and plans of the 16th century, when much of the structure was still standing. (see Platner and Ashby)
